(Video) Outlander Season 6 Episode 1 : ECHOES FIRST CLIP | CLAIRE & JAMIE

If you think we’re going to have some kind of joyful or light-hearted re-entry into the world outlander ,Season five begins with a weddingRemember?) After almost two years wandering in the desert that is dry, oh wow, you’re dead, WRONG WRONG. We left Fraser Ridge in the toughest of conditions – I don’t think I really have to remind you about Claire’s violent assault and kidnapping at the hands of Brown – and when we get back to 1773 things… aren’t great. Yeah sure, the ridge is running like a well-oiled machine at the moment, but there’s tension, and there’s danger, and there’s a lot of information. none of these are good, It’s not like there’s anything new in The Ballad of Claire and Jamie Fraser – they’ve both been through the worst and have somehow found a way to move on. But this time, things feel different and I think it’s because the normally resilient Claire and Jamie are both defeated the first time around. I mean, Claire’s voiceover begins with a line about “memory is the devil” and ends with her making our ghosts and “we haunt ourselves.” It’s somewhat dark – and I haven’t even gotten to the part where Claire is huffing her homemade ether to get herself out!!

We’re only in episode one, and things are suffocating fast. Part of this is, most certainly, thanks to the fact that the Revolutionary War is hanging over the heads of all those involved, but part of it is also the more tangible threats encroaching on Fraser Ridge.

There are too many bad friends hanging out on Jamie’s ground right now! Jamie, bless her heart, it’s too good to be just like, get off my yard, but it certainly must be so. And yes, I understand how absurd it is to call someone who is “very nice,” but in this instance, he is over and over again – and he is ultimately going to pay the price. This all leads us to Tom Christie. Christie, along with his son Alan, daughter Malva, and a group of other fishermen he has gathered along the way, are the newest settlers on the ridge. But Tom Christie is no stranger to Jamie. In fact, we get a full twenty-minute prologue at Ardsmuir Prison in 1753 that shows us their entangled history. The whole thing might be half as long – this super-sized episode is supposed to be a treat, I guess, but it just feels bloated; Can we need To see Jamie get some more whips? this man! However, we do get some valuable information to set up this Jamie/Christie conflict that will certainly be a throughline for the season. Primarily, it’s that Tom Christie, who is also an inmate at Ardsmuir after Culloden, is a real dick. He hates Catholics while being an ardent Protestant, he befriends the prison governor by becoming a freemason, and he is a man who preaches the worship of God above all but is always looking for himself first. Is. He is furious when Jamie, someone who just wants to spend his time and is left alone, is pulled in as factions begin to fight among the prisoners, so Jamie Decides to become a freemason to keep the peace. It is Jamie who tells his fellow inmates that the prison should be treated as a Freemason lodge where politics and religion are not allowed to be discussed – and it works. Of course it works! Jamie is a born leader and the governor’s new favorite. It really grinds Christie’s gear.

When Tom Christie arrives at Fraser Ridge after running out of options and looking at the sheet Jamie has invited all the Ardsmuir prisoners to settle on the ground, you can tell this dude is still holding that grudge. He has a face that you really want to punch, you know? Unfortunately, Roger doesn’t know. Nor does he know the sourness between this boy and his father-in-law. So when Tom Christie knocks on the door and Roger and Bree are the only ones in the house, Roger is happy to give this Ardsmuir prison man a warm welcome. Oh, guys, I feel like I could write 1,000 words on the reaction on Jamie’s face when he encounters not only Tom Christie sitting in his kitchen, but Roger’s news that Christie is permanent. will be settled on the ground. Those bug eyes say what Jamie can’t, which is a brilliant is this guy kidding me right now, It is largely a physical representation of this entire father/son-in-law relationship. Roger still can’t seem to win over when it comes to Jamie, but he has a really thick, hot beard now, and it’s better than nothing. It’s a lot. For me, personally. Not Jamie, who probably doesn’t care.

(Video) Outlander S6E1 Breakdown & Review! Spoilers

Anyway, Jamie feels like he has to let this slide – he’s invited all his Ardsmuir friends to his land, doesn’t feel like he can just single out one. It’s a shame because Tom Christie has been upset from the start. It seems that every time he has to admit that this is Jamie’s land, he wants to build the church first, and Jamie knows that Christie’s brand of “preaching” is only going to annoy people, he tries. Jamie’s scars (honestly, how dare he) and jail time to juggle a bit about what means he’s not a good guy, Christy’s daughter is a hypocrite, and her son Alan is the one with daddy issues. A walking avatar. Strange, strange things are going on within the Christie family, and it’s only a matter of time before it boils over the Ridge.

And when I say “only a matter of time,” I mean it immediately because you might not know it, as if Fraser is hosting a hog feast at the Big House for everyone who has to ride to ruin the party. But they get to arrest the fucking clown from Brown Town, Alan, for stealing gun powder horns, which is a thing. That’s right, on top of Jamie to tackle Tom Christie, he also has Richard Brown on his back. Richard Brown, remember, and all of Brownsville’s Browns started a “safety committee” for the area, which basically means they are taking the law into their own hands, and that Basically it means doing whatever they want.

Richard Brown wants to arrest Allen immediately. Tom Christie agrees that his trash son should be punished, but he asks if instead of taking him away, they can take care of it there. He also has a super disconnecting sidebar with Alan about how he could end up like his mother, who is apparently, “burning in hell’s fire.” So that’s a lovely little ‘father/son’ moment.

You know, Richard Brown almost agrees to let Fraser’s Ridge handle it, probably because he sees Tom Christie and recognizes the stupid idiots, you know? As if Richard Brown would just walk away and let Jamie think he had any sort of authority here. Poor Jamie, he’s trying his best to be like, “This is my land!” and “I make the rules!” And it’s so cute, but nobody cares. Instead, Brown makes it a thing. He learns that Major Macdonald from King’s army is in attendance and goes on to say that if Jamie is so lax on someone stealing gun powder, it’s probably because he’s sheltering the rebels and King’s. Stocking up to rise against. Jamie is left in a tough spot: he wants to gradually end all ties with the Crown before the Revolutionary War, but he knows he has to appear loyal to England as much as possible, lest he be arrested. Go. Jamie is walking a dangerous line once again. In this example, that means she has to give Alan ten eyelashes right there in front of everyone. And you know that really has to mess with his head for a number of reasons.

And so, as hard as Jamie might try to exercise his power over the people on his land, Tom Christie, Richard Brown, and Major MacDonald are going to make it a lot harder.

Showing Richard Brown causes some other issues of note that we should be talking about. Claire can’t even stand to see him when he shows up and quickly walks into the house. Her presence there evokes all kinds of feelings and memories that she is trying to keep away. She can tell Jamie—who still can’t bring herself to let Claire go anywhere without her—and Brie that she’s fine, but no one believes her. He is in a bad way. When she can’t stop the nightmare, she decides to get into her surgery and take a few hits of her fresh batch of ethereal – and we were just celebrating how cool it was that she now has anesthesia too!! – so she doesn’t have to feel anything and she can just sleep. So it’s worrying, isn’t it?

as it goes outlanderOf course, Claire isn’t the only person we need to be concerned about at the moment: There’s something wrong with Marsali and Fergus. Marsali, who is extremely pregnant with her fourth child, is showing bruises on her wrist and trying to cover up for Fergus, who everyone can see is drunk almost all the time. We don’t have all the information yet, but it’s something he’s been through since the attack on Fraser Ridge, and if the “sorry for such disappointment” he spits on his wife, that’s a sign, something deeper. The wound he is taking is oozing all around. Just add him to the long list of people on Fraser Ridge we need to be concerned about.
